Meet The Team: Our Story

C. Milano Harden, Ed. M; President & CEO

Milano Harden is President and Founder of The Genius Group, Inc. Harden has extensive training and experience in leadership effectiveness; organizational change and development; executive education, philanthropic strategy; nonprofit management; and diversity and inclusion.

Harden has deep interests in the leadership effectiveness of next generation leaders, the organizational strengthening of movement building organizations and ethnic philanthropy. Prior to TGG, Harden served in a number of progressive leadership roles:

 

  • Program Director at The Healthcare Georgia Foundation in Atlanta, GA;
  • Manager of Education Initiatives at Harvard University’s Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations & Philanthropy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government;
  • Development Manager of Executive Education at the American Hospital Association’s Health Research & Educational Trust;
  • Program Evaluator for the Department of Community Services at Northwestern Memorial Hospital; and
  • District Health Coordinator for the Illinois Primary Health Care Association.

 

While working at the American Hospital Association, Harden co-founded Imago Dei, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to improving young men’s and boys of color social condition, educational attainment and psychological wellbeing. Recently, Harden and the TGG team have secured the following opportunities:

 

-          Serve as Deputy Director for the Public Health Institute’s (Oakland, CA) National Leadership Academy for the Public’s Health funded by a 3 year cooperative agreement from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, Atlanta, GA;

-          Evaluator along with Quinn Gentry, Ph.D. and Crystal Warren-Williams, Dr.PH. for the Women’s Funding Network (San Francisco, CA) and Kellogg Foundation funded Impact, Influence and Investment Initiative;

-          Senior Consultant for the African Network Campaign on Education for All based in Senegal and representing 35 national country coalitions advocating for the implementation of the International Monetary Fund’s Education for All standards. Harden joined Dr. Andrea Anderson-Hamilton to conduct a Strategic Review funded by the Open Society Foundation (London, UK);

-          Currently serving as Senior Advisor/Lead Consultant for AARP’s (Washington, DC) post-acquisition culture integration with Experience Corps;

-          Served as Senior Advisor/Lead Consultant/Facilitator for the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s (Baltimore, MD) Evidence Based Practice Team’s National Expert Convening;

Recently selected as a National Preferred Provider in Organizational Development for the rapid response technical assistance component of Emerald Cities Collaborative’s  (Washington, DC) capacity building program.

Harden serves on several boards and committees including: Board of Directors of the International Community School, Avondale Estates, GA; the Steering Committee of the Southeastern Network of African Americans in Philanthropy (SNAAP!); the National Advisory Committee of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities Program; The YMCA of the USA’s Activate America National Expert Panel on Communities of Color; and Member, New Leaders Council of Atlanta’s Curriculum Committee.

Harden holds a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University, and a graduate degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Harden has been honored with several fellowships: in 2011, by Leadership DeKalb, as a member of the 2012 Class; in 2010, by Leadership Atlanta, as a member of the 2010-2011 Class, the 40th Leadership Atlanta cohort; in 2009, by the Association of Black Foundation Executives (ABFE) as a member of the 2009-2010 Connecting Leadership Fellows; in 2003 by the Southeastern Council of Foundation as a Hull Leadership Fellow for emerging leaders in philanthropy; in 1998 by Harvard University as an Administrative Fellow for high potential administrators of color on staff at Harvard. Harden is the happy husband of Joan Harden, MD, and proud father of two sons – Zachery and Seth.

Crystal Warren-Williams, Dr.PH., Senior Research Associate

Dr. Warren-Williams is a health researcher with extensive training in community health sciences and evaluation research. She has worked with academic institutions, health and human services organizations, and consulting firms, providing applied research support through literature reviews, expert interviewing, survey/questionnaire development, data analysis, and proposal/report writing. Her research interests include health disparities, healthcare management diversity, obesity prevention, community-based participatory health research initiatives, and health program evaluation.

Dr. Warren-Williams holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, a Master of Science in Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University, and a Doctor of Public Health in Behavioral and Community Health Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh (website). In 1998, she was selected by the American Cancer Society’s Collaborative Evaluation Fellows Project as an Evaluation Fellow for promising scholars in public health, and in 1999 by the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Child Development Interdisciplinary Fellowship in Policy and Program Evaluation as an Evaluation Fellow for emerging leaders in evaluation research. In 2006, Dr. Warren-Williams completed dissertation research examining the influence of faith, spirituality and religion on the health and healthcare decision-making of African Americans.

Brian Scott, B.A. Psychology, Research Associate I

Working with TGG has afforded me an opportunity to gain a more vivid perspective on the social concerns that inform the passions of those working in the domain of philanthropy. Many of the projects I’ve had the privilege of being a part of, focus on helping clients actualize the most clear and effective pathway to achieve desired outcomes for their work. By working closely with the firm and a client’s intellectual resources, I get a clearer understanding of the goals for a project. Some of my most valuable, rewarding experiences involve watching a client’s idea manifest into concrete form.

Pamela Spann, Executive Assistant to the President

Executive Assistant to the President. Pamela has the privilege of working directly for the President and Founder on every major project for the last 4 years. With over 25 years of experience working in Accounting and Administrative field Pamela handles the day to day business operations, including financial management and accounting. Pamela’s responsibilities also include making contract budgeting, tax preparation, vendor management, travel and scheduling and calendar management for the President and TGG staff.
Working with The Genius Group had given me the opportunity to broaden my perspective on the social concerns of our nation, the needs of our communities and the organizational impact on the changes needed to move forward in a positive direction. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is the interaction with some of the most intelligent and influential people who have shared their knowledge and expertise with me to help me advance.
Pamela holds and Associates Degree in Accounting from Commonwealth College of Virginia, along with being Microsoft Office Certified.
Working with The Genius Group had given me the opportunity to broaden my perspective on the social concerns of our nation, the needs of our communities and the organizational impact on the changes needed to move forward in a positive direction. I have the privilege of working directly for the President and Founder on every project from an administrative level and have learned about the purpose and need of Philanthropy. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is the interaction with some of the most intelligent and influential people who have shared their knowledge and expertise with me to help me advance. Knowledge truly is power and the knowledge that I have received working for The Genius Group, has opened my eyes, my heart and my mind.

Jessica Curtis, B.A. Mass Media, Social Media Coordinator/Project Manager

As a Social Media Coordinator, Jessica develops communication plans and strategies for effective marketing and branding for The Genius Group. Making sure that the company’s social media presence is thoughtful and strategic to the development and growth of TGG. Currently she is working on the launch of the company website, to ensure a user-friendly experience as well as a one stop shop for clients and potential clients. She also works on the management and development of the current social media tools currently utilized including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIN, as well as researching new and innovative channels to engage.
Jessica holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media/Communication from Valdosta State University, and is currently working towards her MBA in Business Marketing at Strayer University. Since graduating in Spring 2009, Jessica has worked in many facets of media including radio, print, broadcasting, and continues to work with clients on communication strategy and execution.
